A shaman is a religious or mystical official associated with a wide variety of religious faiths and beliefs. A shaman is usually thought to have a significant amount of influence over good and evil spirits. Shamans are commonly tied to religious faiths in North America or Asia, but they can be found all over the world. A shaman will be responsible for helping someone enter a trance state during a religious ceremony or ritual. Shamans may also administer certain psychedelic substances, such as ayahuasca or peyote, during the ceremony. These substances are used to encourage divination and help people heal. A shaman might also be responsible for training other individuals who are interested in becoming more involved in these religious ceremonies.
